The redevelopment of the iconic Bourke Street David Jones store in Melbourne's CBD presented all the elements of several projects on the one site; concurrent delivery, continued use of the site by the user groups and the requirement to maintain access to the secure site.

An existing 6 level retail/office block and pedestrian bridge were initially demolished to the rear of the site opening up the area for the construction of a new 6 level building. The tower crane was erected for the works to commence on the new structure.

These works incorporate a complete rebuilding of every level, the removal and reinstallation of new escalators and the removal and relocation of heritage lifts and subsequent floor plate infills. The end result was a major upgrade to the trading floors bringing David Jones into the 21st century.
