PROJECT: Corpus Christie Aged Care
Architect: Smith & Tracey Architects
This new Residential aged care facility comprises 120 beds and a dementia ward over two floors. Facilities to each wing include communal living and dining facilities, retail
facilities (such as hairdressers and cinema) and a chapel. Corpus Christie Aged Care is now the largest and newest state of the art facility owned
and operated by CHE (Catholic Homes for the Elderly).
The critical date for completion was December 2005 due to existing
facilities having been sold and the transfer of bed licences to the new
facility. The facility was constructed on a newly purchased vacant
lot in Clayton and consists of a two storey brick veneer structure.
Divided into four sections the building contains 30 beds, communal
living and activity centres for residents, a chapel, cinema room
& hairdresser. The services core was centralised and houses a
large commercial kitchen and laundry as well as storage and staff
facilities.
Constructed under tight timeframes and budget constraints this 120
bed aged care facility encompasses a main structure of structural
steel and clad bondec suspended slabs as the main structure, which
is then wrapped in a brick veneer with a metal deck roof.
Integrated services include residential fire sprinklers, nurse call
buttons to all rooms, security and PABX systems. External works
included feature brick paving, timber and metal fencing and new
irrigation system and landscaping to entire site.
