PROJECT: Victoria Parade Surgery Centre
Architect: Baade Harbour
This project began as an empty shell within an existing building in the medical district of
East Melbourne. The fit out incorporated five new surgical theatres with adjoining recovery
areas, consulting rooms and administration/waiting areas. The surgical procedures to be
performed within the new facility are predominantly eye, ear and nose operations, requiring
a number of very specialised services installed within the ceiling and wall spaces, including
specialised ventilation and air conditioning, happa filtration and medical gasses.
Throughout the project there were numerous buildability issues
due to the difficulties of accommodating the services within the
required ceiling space. The location of mechanical and service
equipment required modification during the construction period
which was under enormous time constraints.
The project also included the construction of an additional
external structure to house dirty linen and waste, as well as
supporting mechanical equipment and backup generators.
Additionally, Walton offered assistance to the client throughout
the health department certification application process in order
for the client to gain accreditation.
