This project involved the construction of a new multi-level aged care facility on an environmentally significant site adjacent to the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary as part of a staged facility upgrade. The Client had completed part demolition and services diversions to maintain the existing facility prior to awarding this contract. The new facility comprised construction of an additional 176 new beds in addition to staged renovation of the existing 30 bed single storey facility.

This 120 bed facility was built over three levels and 10,000sqm of floor area. The elements incorporate a structural steel and reinforced concrete structure, extensive environmental remediation works and substantial value adding by Walton during the pre construction stage. Walton worked closely with the Superintendent and quantity surveyor to identify cost savings on alternative materials and products. Infrastructure formed an important part of the works, in particular requirements to maintain an existing substation on the site which services the local area. A new mains supply was brought into the site and services a new substation built within the facility. Once the new sub was commissioned, the old substation was removed triggering the issuing of the stage 2 building permit and the completion of the facilities construction.
